Sustainability has been a cornerstone of our ECG philosophy from the very beginning. We’re committed to social enterprises that have a positive impact on people and the environment. We believe that by creating sustainable practices, we can build a better future for everyone – not just today, but for generations to come.
But what does Economic for the Common Good really mean?
The Economy for the Common Good is a 5-years-young alternative economic model. There, business owners and investors work towards achieving success through engagement that benefits both them as well consumers in order to create sustainable communities rather than just focusing on profit margins or growth rates alone.
In the modern world, economic success is typically measured by metrics such as GDP and financial profit. These are not what makes an economy successful though – they’re just meant to achieve certain ends: human needs fulfilment or quality life. We need new ways of measuring things if we want our society/economy truly to thrive.
The core idea here isn’t complicated at all; it boils down to one simple phrase: “measurings should reflect values.” That’s why we are proud to partner with like-minded organizations that share our commitment to sustainability.
Projects We Have Supported in Promoting ECG
All Things Considered
All Things Considered is an online resource that brings sustainability and ethics information from company websites to one location, making it easy for consumers in today’s world where there are so many choices about what they want or need.
This sustainable shopping platform will help you research your favourite brands and see how they are doing in terms of ethical practices, innovations that benefit people or the environment as well as other things such as recycling programs. You can also follow other users’ feeds so it is easier to keep track.
Take A Breath
Take a Breath is dedicated to making a difference in the health outcomes of all Kiwis. It is an online learning portfolio that helps you to understand the connection between stress, your brain and breathing. With this knowledge in mind, it will be easier for you not only to recognise when but also how much pressure is too much so as avoid burnout or other negative effects of work-related travel such as anxiety attacks from being on edge all day long.
Stress is a very common problem that many people deal with on an everyday basis – Take A Breath’s primary focus will allow users access to understanding what causes their feelings/thoughts about worry, fear or panic so they know better methods for managing these emotions without relying solely upon medication which may not always work as desired due to its side effects etc.
Bucket
Bucket is on a mission to help protect Aotearoa’s environment by bringing together people from all over New Zealand who care about it. They are making an incredible contribution, not only in the money they’ve raised but also with their passion for protecting what makes this country great: nature.
Bucket is a revolutionary new platform that rewards users who help fund conservation projects with awards and achievements.
FreeForAll
FreeForAll is the only online marketplace designed to stop household items from ever reaching landfills. Its goal is to reduce the amount of waste in landfills by 75% over time.
The platform has been changing the way we care for our environment by combating waste and helping those who need it most.
Emergency Q
The Emergency Q app connects patients, hospitals and clinics in real-time to provide an efficient solution that reduces crowding in emergency rooms.
Most New Zealanders have found themselves in need of emergency services at some point – the app not only provides information on when an emergency occurs but also what constitutes one and where they should go if it’s not lifesaving or require immediate intervention by medical professionals.
With the Emergency Q app, patients can bypass long wait times and be seen sooner for non-urgent conditions – this reduces overcrowding in hospitals. Emergency Q empowers patients with the data they need to make better decisions about what conditions qualify as an emergency.
Organ Donation NZ
In New Zealand, there is a long line of people waiting for an organ or tissue transplant. Sadly, some of the people on this waiting list will die without receiving long-term treatment. Others however continue to live with chronic health problems due in part because theirs don’t get treated quickly enough.
When more people become organ donors, the number of patients on waiting lists decreases.
We’re proud to have been able to contribute in such a meaningful way. We know that our work with Organ Donation NZ will help save many lives!
